Solidarity with Ukraine
The University of Notre Dame has a longstanding, strong relationship with Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU). In May of 2022, Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., and Metropolitan-Archbishop Borys Gudziak, organizer and president of Ukrainian Catholic University, entered into an agreement to significantly expand the existing academic, religious, and cultural partnerships between the two universities.
To capture this long-standing partnership and future collaborations, Notre Dame International created a platform to share news, stories, and resources that highlight the University’s solidarity with Ukraine.
Archbishop Borys Gudziak Gives 2022 Commencement Address
Metropolitan-Archbishop Borys Gudziak, the highest-ranking Ukrainian Catholic prelate in the United States and president of Ukrainian Catholic University, was the principal speaker and received an honorary degree at the University of Notre Dame’s 177th University Commencement Ceremony on May 15, 2022.
International Partnerships
Notre Dame International has more than 120 agreements with partners on six continents. These agreements include institution-level general memoranda of understanding; exchange programs for undergraduates, graduates, and faculty; and partnerships that bring international students to Notre Dame for short-term academic programs. New Agreements
NDI hosts virtual week in China, creates and renews research opportunities
Due to travel restrictions to China, Notre Dame International hosted a week-long series of virtual meetings and events to celebrate partnerships and create new opportunities in higher education with Chinese institutions and organizations. Michael Pippenger, vice president and associate provost for internationalization, attended 11 meetings from April 18 to 21, 2022, with Chinese universities and institutions, university partners, alumni groups, and donors for the Greater China Scholars program.
